Description
The field of dark matter is undergoing a period of significant change, due to the absence of evidence (so far) for the most popular candidates, despite the effort that went into the construction and operation of experimental facilities aimed to detect them. Here, we discuss what we learnt on the nature of dark matter from the past 4 decades of experiments, and what are the implications for dark matter searches in the next decade. I will argue that diversifying the experimental effort, and exploiting astronomical surveys and gravitational waves observations might be our best strategy to make progress with the dark matter problem.
