Launched in December 2013, Gaia, the European Space Agency mission, completed its nominal mission last July. Despite being based on the first 650 days of the nominal mission only, the second data release delivered in April 2018 has been revolutionising our understanding of the Galaxy, with more than 2000 papers already published with the DR2 results. I will present the basic ideas behind Gaia, browse some of the hot topics published recently, and introduce what can be anticcipated with the 3rd data release.
