Colloquium: 50 years of particle physics research

Europe/Brussels
The Royal Academies For Science And The Arts Of Belgium rue Ducale, 1, Brussels
Description

This year the Interuniversity Institute for High Energies (IIHE) in Brussels is 50 years young.

When finally the Dutch speaking university (VUB) appeared additional to the French speaking university (ULB) in the Brussels landscape, the institute was jointly created by both universities in 1972. Over the years, several breakthroughs in fundamental physics have crossed our path. Today, the 100-persons strong institute is involved in a portfolio of international research programmes to understand both the smallest and largest structures in nature. Together, we are gearing up to host an event to mark this half-century of successful collaboration.

An academic session is organized on September 14th at the Royal Academy in Brussels. In the morning, the session would focus on an audience of policy makers together with various scientific leaders in Belgium. In the afternoon, the session will be dedicated to high-energy physics.
