The COherent Muon to Electron Transition (COMET) experiment aims to measure muon to electron conversion in the field of a nucleus with an unprecedented sensitivity of less than 10-16. The need for this sensitivity provides challenges for both the beam line and detector systems.
COMET will be built in two phases, making ground-breaking physics measurements in both phases. The first phase has been approved by J-PARC and physics data is expected in 2017.
