Description

Given the conspicuous absence of any sign of supersymmetry at run one of the LHC it is worth considering string theory without space-time supersymmetry. I discuss the general properties of such theories and how they can be made consistent using a form of spontaneous supersymmetry breaking. I also discuss aspects of their phenomenology including the mass of scalars such as the Brout-Englert-Higgs particle. Given their UV completeness, quantities such as masses and indeed the entire one-loop potential are directly calculable and finite. The talk will be accessible also to non experts in the field.
