Description

Abstract:
I will review the context, the motivations and the expected performances of a comprehensive and ambitious fixed-target program using the multi-TeV proton and ion LHC beams. I will quickly discuss the different possible technical implementations ranging from an internal wire target to a full dedicated beam line extracted with a bent crystal. I will focus on the possibilities offered by the use of the ALICE and LHCb detectors in the fixed-target mode.

Short Bio:
Dr. Lansberg obtained his PhD in 2005 from Liege U. under the supervision of J.R. Cudell. His thesis focused on quarkonium production at hadron colliders. After postdocs in Ecole Polytechnique, Heidelberg and Stanford, he was hired by CNRS in 2010 to work at IPN Orsay (now IJCLab Orsay). Since 2010, in parallel with his theoretical investigations on QCD, has been working on the elaboration of a strong physics case for a fixed-target programme at the LHC.  He is initiator of the AFTER@LHC study group.
