Description
The Standard Model contains three generations of fermions, but there is no fundamental reason that a fourth generation is prohibited. In fact, not a single experiment has excluded such an additional generation. In this talk I present an ongoing study to search for a fourth generation heavy top-like quark (t-prime) with the Compact Muon Solenoid detector at the LHC. A multivariate hypothesis test is applied in order to distinguish between Standard Model and t-prime hypotheses. In this way the possibilities of the used method are explored to set exclusion limits on the t-prime mass.
