Description
The first part of this presentation will describe a measurement of the Z boson cross section at LHCb undertaken by the speaker as part of his PhD research. This measurement has the potential to test the Standard Model to 1% and reduce uncertainty on Parton Distribution Functions (PDFs). A brief introduction to the LHCb experiment will be provided before the motivations, methodologies and results of the measurement are presented. The second part of the presentation will detail prospective physics measurements and new particle searches at CMS which are of interest to the speaker, e.g., ttbar asymmetry and Z' searches. The motivations, feasibility and possible impacts of each of these measurement will be discussed.
