Description
It is here presented the activity I worked on during the first three years of the CMS data taking. The first measurement of the inclusive WZ diboson production cross section in pp collisions, σ(pp -> WZ +X) at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV was performed, looking at the fully leptonic decay channel, profiting from the first 1.09/fb of data registered by CMS up to July 2011. A sample of cosmic ray events collected by the CMS detector during the Cosmic Run At Four Tesla in 2008 was exploited to study the response of the electromagnetic calorimeter (ECAL) through the measurement of the muon stopping power in the lead tungstate of the ECAL, while operating as installed in CMS for the first time. With the LHC starting operation in 2009, first data were used to commission the reconstruction algorithm for electron objects so to be used for any analyses, with particular attention to the very first stage of the tracking in the inner tracker layers.
