Description
After the crucial discovery of the Higgs boson in 2012, the LHC is preparing to expand an exciting physics program to precisely measure its properties and to continue the quest for new particles. This will require a series of accelerator upgrades to increase the beam luminosity, as well as major improvements of the ATLAS and CMS experiments to reconstruct the many interactions that will be engendered by beam collisions. We discuss the experimental challenges to overcome to achieve the LHC physics program through the next two decades. The focus will be on the CMS experiment, with relevant highlights on the equivalent ATLAS upgrades.
