Description
The earth is constantly bombarded by cosmic particles, such as gamma-rays, nuclei, and neutrinos. These particles can reach extreme energies up to 10^20 eV. Nevertheless, at the highest energies these particles become very rare, and therefore a very large detection volume is needed to probe them. Due to its long attenuation length, the radio signal is an ideal messenger to study the particle cascade induced when these cosmic particles interact with Earth matter. Both the direct radio detection technique, as well as the RADAR detection method will be presented.
